Buzzing distorted speakers

Hey there gang. Hoping someone might have an idea of what happened here. I bought a pretty decent pair of computer speakers that has a subwoofer and two desktop box speakers. The set has worked flawlessly for about a year, but now, all of a sudden, they make a constant buzzing sound, even when they're muted, and music sounds distorted, especially in the smaller speakers. I don't notice the distortion so much with Eloquence, but anything that has any bass to it is just really bad. At first, I thought perhaps a speaker was busted, but I have examined them very closely and I don't think that's the issue. The speakers buz, even when I unhook them from the computer. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

These speakers never bust. The computer can't kick out enough power for that, so that isn't your issue.
Change the place you have the power chord plugged in to.
If that solves the issue, you know it is time to replace your power strip if you are using one.
Buzzing most times comes from electrical distortion, meaning current running causing the sound you hear.
Most speakers are shielded from this, but some are not.

They are plugged in to a power strip, so I just now plugged them in to another outlet, with no power strip. They pop pretty loud both when I unplugged them and plugged them back in. The buzzing is the same. No difference at all. When I turn them on, they make a really loud buzzing sound for maybe a 10th of a second.

In that case, they've developed a short someplace. Time to buy new ones if these aren't repairable by the company.
You might try plugging and unplugging a headset in to see it the short is in that connection, but that's about it.

Try the z 653 speakers if you need to get new ones. They're not all that terribly costly.
